Output format

ICO: one file with 16, 24, 32, 48, 64, 128 and 256 px icons (up to the image size), transparent padding for non-square images.

PDF: one page per image. With several images, “Download as one PDF” puts them in a single file in list order.

File size

For JPG, WebP and AVIF. 70–80 is hard to tell from the original. PNG tries lossless and colour reduction, keeping detail unless you request a file-size target (see Advanced).

KB

Aims at or below the maximum counting 1 KB = 1,000 bytes, so the file passes whether a site counts 1,000 or 1,024 bytes per KB.

Type the print size; the pixels are worked out from the resolution.

Kept metadata is copied from JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC and AVIF originals into JPG, PNG or WebP output. The orientation tag is reset (the photo is already turned upright) and the embedded thumbnail is removed.

What the clean-up does

  • Whitens the paper: grey shadows and the paper colour become pure white; the ink keeps its colour.
  • Crops the empty space around the signature, leaving a small margin, so the signature fills the image.
  • Hits the size limit: the image is compressed (and only if needed, reduced) to fit the KB range.

If the photo has no clear ink on paper (for example a photo of a person), the clean-up leaves it unchanged.

Tips for a signature that passes

  • Sign with a black or dark blue pen on plain white paper; ballpoint lines that are too thin can break up when compressed.
  • Photograph it in daylight, straight from above, filling most of the frame.
  • Need it at an exact size in cm? Choose Dimensions → Print size, for example 4.5 × 2 cm at 200 DPI, with Fill exactly (add a border).

Questions and answers

How do I get a signature between 10 and 20 KB?

This page opens with a minimum of 10 KB and a maximum of 20 KB. If the signature is still under 10 KB, it is padded inside the JPG file without changing how it looks.

Can I make the background white?

Yes. The signature clean-up turns the paper pure white and crops the margins; it is on by default here and under Advanced on other pages.

My signature looks broken after compressing

The limit is too tight for the size. Use a darker pen, or let the image be a little smaller: the target size search reduces the pixels before the ink breaks up.
